LOS ANGELES, July 14 (Xinhua) -- Universal and Illumination's animated comedy film "Despicable Me 4" took the top spot at the North American box office for the second weekend in a row with an estimated three-day cume of 44.65 million U.S. dollars, data from the measurement firm Comscore showed on Sunday.

The film has earned 211.1 million dollars in North America through Sunday. Overseas, it has an international cume of 226.7 million dollars, including about 17.6 million dollars from the Chinese mainland.

Directed by Chris Renaud, "Despicable Me 4" is the fourth main installment in the Despicable Me franchise, which is now the first animated franchise to generate 5 billion dollars in ticket sales worldwide.

A newcomer, independent film distributor Neon's horror film "Longlegs," opened in second place with 22.6 million dollars.

Rounding out the top three, Disney and Pixar's animated film "Inside Out 2" brought in 20.75 million dollars on its fifth weekend for a North American cume of 572.6 million dollars.
