MOSCOW, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Japan's potential introduction of nuclear weapons into its accelerating process of remilitarization would pose threats to Russia's national security and undermine the stability in the entire region, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Monday.
She noted that the Japanese defense minister's recent arguments about the need for an open discussion on nuclear weapons cannot be justified by the interests of self-defense, since no state threatens Japan's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
"On the contrary, we are witnessing a revival of the aggressive spirit of Japanese militarism," Zakharova said.
"We once again call on Tokyo in this regard to remember the lessons of history... and to return to a peaceful path of development," Zakharova concluded. ■
