BRATISLAVA, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico admitted to local media on Sunday that there would be early elections or reconstruction of the coalition government if the current coalition issue could not be solved.

Talking in a program on the TA3 news channel, Fico indicated that when the Hlas party and the Slovak National Party (SNS) cannot ensure the functionality of the parliament, one solution is early parliamentary elections.

The second option is the reconstruction of the government, he added.

During Slovakia's parliamentary election on Sept. 30, 2023, the Smer-SD party led by Fico won 42 seats in the 150-member House, falling short of 76 seats. Later the Smer-SD party allied with Hlas and SNS to form a coalition government with a four-year term.

However, in November last year, three parliamentary members within the SNS caucus decided not to vote together with the coalition, decreasing the coalition's slim majority from 79 seats to 76 seats.

The parliamentary clubs of Hlas and SNS "have disintegrated or are disintegrating, and there are problems with numbers," Fico noted.
