ISTANBUL, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- A total of 2,713 people lost their lives in traffic accidents across Türkiye in 2024, according to a recent report by the General Directorate of Security.
The report revealed that 2,713 people died and 388,644 people were injured in 623,148 traffic accidents nationwide, with 2,289 of these accidents resulting in fatalities.
The majority of accidents occurred in the country's three largest cities: Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir. Istanbul alone accounted for 97,354 traffic accidents.
Speeding was identified as the leading cause of traffic accidents in 2024, the report noted. ■
