KIEV, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- One person was killed and seven others were injured in an overnight drone attack on Kiev, Ukraine's Prosecutor General's Office said on Wednesday.
Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko said most casualties were in the central Pechersk district, where debris from intercepted drones fell on an apartment block.
Preliminary reports from the Kiev City State Administration indicated that the attack damaged the top three floors of a six-story apartment building.
Drone debris also fell on some non-residential structures in central and western Kiev.
The National Bank of Ukraine confirmed on Facebook that wreckage from the downed projectiles fell on the roof of one of its buildings, igniting a fire that was later extinguished.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that out of 111 drones launched overnight, 63 were intercepted. An additional 46 drones went off the radars without causing damage, while two flew to Russia and Belarus. ■
