BELGRADE, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- The Serbian government announced on Thursday the adoption of the Belgrade Declaration, a pivotal initiative under the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence.
The Declaration emerging from deliberations at the Global AI Summit held earlier this month in Belgrade marks a step forward toward establishing a framework for the ethical, sustainable development and application of artificial intelligence (AI) worldwide.
In its announcement, the Serbian government underscored the Declaration's commitment to core values such as individual freedom, democratic principles, the rule of law, and human rights. These values are presented as the foundation for advancing AI technologies in a way that benefits all.
Addressing pressing challenges, the Declaration highlights the need to bridge the digital divide between developed and developing nations, advocating for equal opportunities and sustainable AI practices. It sets clear priorities for addressing global issues such as employment, data governance, privacy, biotechnology, and environmental sustainability.
It also emphasizes global cooperation, notably through partnerships with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The Belgrade Declaration serves as a key framework for collaboration on AI development, the government added. ■
