PRAGUE, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Czech police officers intervened in central Prague on Thursday following a report of a gunman that later turned out to be false.
"Police are investigating a report that a man with a gun is heading from Letna Park to the city center. Security measures are in place at the scene, with several dozen police officers searching for the unknown man," police said on social media X around noon.
Police said they also communicated with the management of Charles University's Faculties of Law and Arts, whose buildings are in the city center near the park.
According to the Czech News Agency, students at both faculties were notified on their mobile phones about the police action around noon. About half an hour later, police announced the conclusion of the security measures, confirming the report was fabricated.
"It seems that the caller made the whole thing up. The detectives are now dealing with him on suspicion of spreading a hoax message," police added.
Saturday marks one year since the shooting tragedy at Charles University, in which a gunman killed 14 people at the university's Faculty of Arts building in central Prague. The killer later committed suicide. A further 25 people were injured in the tragedy. ■
