TIRANA, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Albania's consumer price index (CPI) inched up by 0.1 percent in October compared to September, signaling a recent easing of inflationary pressures, the country's Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) reported on Friday.
The annual CPI for October stood at 1.9 percent, a significant drop from the 3.8 percent recorded in October 2023.
Local media attribute this mild CPI increase primarily to reduced import price pressures, largely due to the strengthening of the Albanian lek, which has gained over 4.0 percent against the euro in the past year.
In October, prices for clothing, shoes, and entertainment and culture rose by 0.4 percent, while transportation costs decreased by 0.5 percent compared to the previous month.
Year-on-year, the largest price increases were seen in entertainment and culture, alcoholic beverages and tobacco, and clothing and shoes. Transportation costs experienced the largest annual decline, dropping by 5.3 percent. ■
