VALLETTA, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- The ferry service connecting mainland Malta to the sister island Gozo was temporarily suspended on Friday evening following a bomb scare.
The Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) said in a statement on Saturday that it had received an urgent call via the emergency line 112 reporting a suspected bomb threat on the Gozo Channel ferries.
The AFM's Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams were immediately deployed to Cirkewwa and Mgarr in Gozo.
EOD teams conducted thorough searches both underwater and on all vessels to ensure the safety of passengers and crew. The search operations were completed successfully and resulted negative.
All ferry operations resumed normal service after the all-clear was given. ■
