SARAJEVO, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Several high schools in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH)'s Sarajevo Canton received bomb threats via email on Monday morning, prompting immediate evacuation of students and staff.

Mersiha Novalic, spokesperson for the regional Ministry of Interior, confirmed that the schools promptly notified police authorities, who initiated a sweep of the premises. Security teams will be deployed to all affected schools to ensure the safety of the facilities.

In late September, Sarajevo saw a surge in false bomb threats targeting public locations such as the airport, high schools, shopping centers, and the BiH Presidency. Although no explosives have been found, these threats have heightened public anxiety.

By the end of August, Sarajevo police recorded 58 anonymous bomb reports, all fake, but disruptive. These incidents have not only caused psychological distress among residents but have also had economic repercussions.

Armin Krzalic, a professor of criminology at the University of Sarajevo, told local media that these threats seem coordinated, though they do not appear to have political motivations linked to upcoming elections.
