ATHENS, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- An elderly shepherd died and another man went missing on Tuesday near the city of Volos in central Greece, as a bad weather front swept the country, Greek national broadcaster ERT has reported.
The elderly man was killed by a wall which collapsed due to heavy rainfall. The missing man's car was seen swept away by nearby waters, according to ERT's report.
Hundreds of houses and businesses were flooded, and motorists were stranded on closed roads, while the wider region experienced power cuts.
Heavy rainfall has been reported since Monday in western Greece.
Authorities have asked citizens to be cautious due to the possibility of extreme weather phenomena in the next few hours. However, Greek meteorologists have forecast that the conditions will improve Wednesday. ■
