YANGON, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- A total of 6,105 buildings over 100 years old are now under conservation as heritage buildings nationwide in Myanmar, including 153 in the Yangon Region, the state-owned daily The Global New Light of Myanmar reported on Tuesday.

As of 2020, there were 5,708 such heritage buildings across the country, according to the Department of Archaeology and National Museum under the Ministry of Hotels, Tourism and Culture.

The department also stated that plaque-unveiling ceremonies were held on July 28 at Kanbawza Yeiktha (Chin Tsong Palace) and the Bogyoke Aung San Museum in the Yangon Region to officially designate them as heritage buildings.

As part of its preservation efforts, the department carries out necessary maintenance work on these historical buildings every year.
