KUALA LUMPUR, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia will strengthen its cooperation with the World Health Organization to improve its preparedness in facing infectious diseases, Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad said on Tuesday.

Following his meeting with the World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who is on an official visit to Malaysia, Dzulkefly said this cooperation is being advanced through key global negotiations.

"Our focus is on safeguarding lives, and this cooperation with WHO aims to enhance early warning systems and strengthen the resilience of the healthcare system. With improved capacity to detect and respond to crises, disruptions to economic activities and daily life can be minimized," he said.

For his part, Tedros expressed his appreciation for Malaysia's commitment and active involvement in international health issues, as well as its constructive role in strengthening global cooperation based on solidarity.
