Largest annual folk arts festival gets underway in Bangladesh

DHAKA, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- A month-long folk arts festival and fair has been underway in Sonargaon on the outskirts of Bangladesh's capital Dhaka.

Cultural Adviser of Bangladeshi Interim Government Mostofa Sarwar Farooki inaugurated the largest annual festival, which will continue till Feb. 16.

About 100 stalls set up at the fair are displaying an array of traditional products, including handicrafts of small ethnic groups, terracotta art, toys and pottery. 64 artisans from different districts of the country will participate in it.

Decoration pieces and many other objects related to the heritage of Bengal from the 17th century onward are being displayed at the event.

Besides, visitors enjoy traditional performances every day in the evening at the fair.

Organizers said the grand event has been arranged to present the country's crafts and folk culture and to introduce the uniqueness of folk culture to the new generation.
