NEW DELHI, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- Indian security forces killed two armed rebels called Naxals in the country's eastern state of Jharkhand on Wednesday, local police said.
The encounter between the security forces and the Naxals took place in West Singhbhum district at around 03:00 a.m. when local police were carrying out a search operation.
Arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of the encounter.
Currently, Naxals are active across central and eastern parts of India.
The insurgency has claimed hundreds of lives and rendered thousands of people homeless. ■
