KABUL, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- A total of 169 individuals who were drug users have made a full recovery and rejoined their families after receiving treatment at a rehabilitation center in Herat province, western Afghanistan, officials said Wednesday.

The recovered addicts were gathered from various districts of the province and after several months of medical treatment and rehabilitation have reunited with their families, the Office of Deputy Minister of Interior for Counter-Narcotics said in a statement.

Earlier, about 1,000 drug users recovered and reintegrated with their families after receiving treatment in rehabilitation centers in November last year.

The Afghan caretaker government has prohibited the cultivation of poppy and the trafficking of drugs as part of its initiative to combat the issues of drug-related harm and addiction throughout the poverty-stricken country.
