YANGON, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- Five people were killed and five others injured in a traffic accident in southern Myanmar's Mon state on Wednesday, an official from a local rescue organization told Xinhua on Thursday.
The accident occurred as a vehicle was ascending the Ma Hlwe mountain in Ye township, Mon state, said the official from Yan Gyi Aung reserve fire service and rescue organization.
The vehicle fell off the mountain, and the victims were carried up from the bottom of the mountain during the rescue operation, he said.
The official said that they received the news about the accident at around 2 p.m. Wednesday and immediately went there with other rescue organizations in Ye town.
There were 11 people on board the vehicle at the time of the accident. The fatalities included two males and three females, while the injured included three males and two females, according to the rescue organization.
The injured were sent to Ye Township People's Hospital, with two in serious conditions, the official added. ■
