JAKARTA, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from a landslide in the region of Central Java province in Indonesia has risen to 20, according to the country's National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB).

On Wednesday, three bodies were recovered by a rescue team supported by police and military.

BNPB Chief Suharyanto, who visited the site, said that seven people remained missing and 13 others were injured in the disaster. More than 100 residents were currently taking refuge in temporary shelters.

Heavy rain in Pekalongan, a city in the province, triggered a devastating landslide on Tuesday.

Indonesia frequently experiences hydrometeorological disasters during the rainy season. Last November, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency warned that the country had entered the rainy season, with rainfall intensity expected to increase 20 percent to 40 percent due to a weak La Nina, which typically brings wetter conditions.
