VIENTIANE, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Authorities in northern Laos' Luang Prabang province are hoping to attract at least 2.3 million visitors in 2025, targeting more than 1.2 billion U.S. dollars in revenue.

The province expects to attract over 520,000 domestic visitors and over 1.7 million foreign tourists, Lao National Radio reported on Thursday.

To reach its goal, the province will upgrade infrastructure and enhance popular tourist attractions, modernizing facilities to improve the overall visitor experience.

Tourism authorities are also enhancing the skills of hospitality staff to ensure high-quality services. These efforts aim to strengthen Luang Prabang's status as a top tourism destination in Laos.

Luang Prabang province, some 220 km north of Lao capital Vientiane, is one of the most well-known provinces in Laos and a top tourist destination for its old temples, scenic attractions and rural landscapes.

The Lao government has recognized tourism as a key economic sector, emphasizing its role in job creation, income generation, and foreign currency inflows, which significantly contribute to the country's economic and social development.

Laos is also developing a plan to boost tourism by promoting high-quality, internationally competitive experiences.
