Paramilitary trooper wounded in blast in India's Chhattisgarh

NEW DELHI, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- A paramilitary trooper of India's Central Reserve Police Force was wounded Saturday after an improvised explosive device planted by Naxalites went off in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh, police said.

The explosion took place in Bijapur district, about 435 km south of Raipur, the capital city of Chhattisgarh.

Currently, Naxals were active across central and eastern parts of India.

The insurgency has claimed hundreds of lives and rendered thousands of people homeless.
