JAKARTA, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia recorded its lowest inflation in history at 1.57 percent in December 2024, Statistics Indonesia (BPS) said on Thursday.

"The inflation rate of 1.57 percent in December 2024 is the lowest ever recorded by BPS," said Pudji Ismartini, BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics, at a press conference.

She noted that the agency has been calculating inflation since 1958, initially only for Jakarta and now covering all 38 provinces in the archipelagic country.

Inflation was primarily driven by a 7.02 percent increase in the personal care and services category, a 2.48 percent rise in the food and beverage provision category, and a 1.94 percent increase in the education category.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said that inflation remained under control despite pressures from global commodity prices and domestic factors.

The government will continue to ensure adequate food supply, maintain price stability, and support the recovery of key sectors to achieve sustainable economic growth, he added.
