ISLAMABAD, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Consumer Price Index (CPI) of Pakistan in December 2024 declined to 4.1 percent every year, signaling ongoing stabilization in prices, according to official data released on Wednesday.
Nationally, the CPI of December was down from 4.9 percent in November and a staggering 29.7 percent in December 2023, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) said.
However, on a month-on-month basis, the CPI showed a marginal increase of 0.1 percent in December 2024, compared to a 0.5 percent rise in November 2024 and a 0.8 percent increase in December 2023.
Urban areas experienced a more pronounced year-on-year decline in CPI, which fell to 4.4 percent in December 2024, compared to 5.2 percent in the previous month and 30.9 percent in December 2023, the bureau said.
The month-on-month, urban CPI inflation decreased slightly by 0.1 percent, a reversal from the 0.5 percent increase in November 2024 and a 0.7 percent rise in December 2023.
In rural areas, the CPI also continued to ease, dropping to 3.6 percent year-on-year in December 2024, compared to 4.3 percent in November 2024 and 27.9 percent in December 2023.
On a month-on-month basis, rural inflation increased modestly by 0.3 percent, slightly lower than the 0.5 percent rise in November but down from the 1.0 percent growth in December 2023, the PBS said. ■
