HANOI, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- The People's Procuracy of Ho Chi Minh City on Friday announced the death sentence of 27 people involved in a transnational drug trafficking ring from Cambodia to Vietnam, local media reported.
The ring leader, 67-year-old Vu Hoang Oanh, orchestrated and directed the sophisticated transnational drug trafficking network.
This operation smuggled narcotics from Cambodia into Vietnam, distributing them across several Vietnamese localities, including Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Nam Dinh and Hanoi, from 2019 to 2022.
The court also handed down life sentences to six defendants and 20-year prison terms to two others for drug trafficking, Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reported.
From March 2018 to November 2022, they smuggled a total of 626 kg of narcotics, said the prosecutors. ■
