NEW DELHI, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- At least five Indian troopers were killed and several others injured Tuesday evening after a vehicle carrying them skidded off the mountainous road near the Line of Control (LoC) in Indian-controlled Kashmir, officials said.
The accident took place in Poonch district, about 185 km southwest of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
Following the accident, health teams were dispatched to the spot to carry out rescue efforts.
Deadly road accidents are common in India, often due to overloading, bad condition of roads and reckless driving. ■
