YANGON, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- Efforts are being made to control the movement of wild elephants and reduce conflicts between humans and elephants in Myanmar's Yangon, state-run Global New Light of Myanmar reported on Monday.

In Hlegu and Taikkyi townships of the Yangon region, near the Bago Yoma forest area, a herd of approximately 30 wild elephants has been roaming, causing conflicts with residents, the report said.

These incidents have resulted in fatalities among locals and injuries or deaths of the wild elephants, it added.

To address these issues, the Forest Department, in collaboration with non-governmental organizations, plans to install electric fences in areas where human-elephant conflicts occur and conduct awareness campaigns in nearby villages and farmlands, the report said.
