3 killed in fire in Indonesia's Palembang city

JAKARTA, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Three people lost their lives in a fire that destroyed two workshops, two houses and a store in Ilir Timur II, Palembang city, on the island of Sumatra, local police said on Thursday.

"Based on initial investigations, the fire is suspected to have started in a workshop and quickly spread to nearby buildings. The victims were trapped in the blaze and could not escape," said Ilir Timur II police chief Desy Ariyanti.

The deceased included two residents of one of the houses and a workshop worker whose identity has yet to be confirmed.

Additionally, two others suffered severe burns and were currently receiving treatment at hospital.

The cause of the fire was still under investigations.
