KATHMANDU, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- A total of 220 Nepali students were presented with the Chinese ambassador scholarship for 2024 on Tuesday evening.

The students are from over 60 primary and secondary schools and some public schools which have offered Chinese-language courses.

"I would like to congratulate those who have received the awards in this grand ceremony," said Bidya Bhattarai, Nepal's minister for education, science and technology.

Addressing the award ceremony held in Kathmandu, the minister voiced hope that the volunteer Chinese teachers shall contribute more to Nepal's educational development.

For a long time, China has continued to promote high-standard opening up in the field of education to the outside world, vigorously supported the development of Chinese-language education in various countries, and strived to build a bridge of language exchange, understanding and mutual trust and mutual learning among civilizations, said Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chen Song.

He noted that a total of 985 volunteer teachers have been sent to Nepal to teach more than 300,000 college, middle and primary school students as well as adults in nearly two decades, representing the "best calling card" in China-Nepal educational exchanges and cooperation.

On the occasion, awards were also presented to winners of different contests during the year, including a Chinese proficiency competition, a primary school Chinese competition, a Chinese speech competition, a Chinese cultural talent competition and a "China in My Mind" painting competition.

Moksada Regmi, who was awarded the Chinese ambassador scholarship as well as the Chinese government scholarship, is now a senior majoring in clinical medicine at Peking University.

Speaking at the award ceremony, he shared his experience of learning Chinese, saying "Chinese characters are like exquisite paintings with each containing rich stories and simple emotions, while the pronunciation of Chinese is like beautiful music, which makes people intoxicated."
