SYDNEY, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- A 38-year-old man will face court on Saturday charged with allegedly attempting to murder a 42-year-old man in Sydney on Friday, police in the state of New South Wales (NSW) said in a statement on Saturday morning.
Australia's 9News network quoted NSW Police Acting Superintendent Paul Tigner as saying that the attack seemed totally random.
Police said in the statement that emergency services responded to reports at about 8 a.m. local time on Friday that a man had been stabbed multiple times while inside a kebab shop on Dawson Mall. Officers responding rendered first aid to the critically-injured man before he was taken to hospital. The injured man has since undergone emergency surgery and is now reported to be in a stable condition.
Officers were told a man left the shop before catching a taxi, and later found that the man left the taxi and entered a fast-food restaurant in a nearby suburb. Police arrested the 38-year-old man later in another nearby suburb and took him to hospital for precautionary reasons. He was later taken back into custody. ■
