PHNOM PENH, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's famed Angkor Archaeological Park earned 35.98 million U.S. dollars from ticket sales in the first 10 months of 2024, up 29 percent from 27.88 million dollars over the same period last year, said an official report on Friday.

The UNESCO-listed Angkor attracted 774,203 international tourists during the January-October period this year, up 28.4 percent from 602,570 over the same period last year, said the state-owned Angkor Enterprise's report.

The top five source markets for the ancient site were the United States, Britain, France, South Korea and China.

In October this year alone, the site received 74,353 foreign holidaymakers, making 3.46 million dollars in revenue, up 18 percent and 18.3 percent, respectively compared to the same month last year, the report said.

Located in northwest Siem Reap province, the 401-square-km Angkor Archaeological Park is home to 91 ancient temples, which had been built from the 9th to the 13th centuries. It is the most popular tourist destination in the Southeast Asian country.

Ministry of Tourism's Secretary of State and Spokesperson Top Sopheak said the Siem Reap Angkor International Airport, which opened to commercial operations in November 2023, has helped attract more international travelers to the site.

"The Cambodia-China people-to-people exchange year 2024 has also helped encourage more Chinese tourists to visit Cambodia and Angkor," he told Xinhua.
