JAKARTA, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's state-owned oil company Pertamina is currently developing low-carbon technologies to achieve energy self-sufficiency within five years, a company official said on Thursday.
"We are developing four breakthroughs in the low-carbon business, including the development of biofuels, petrochemicals, geothermal, and carbon capture utilization and storages," Pertamina's Vice President of Corporate Communication, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, said in a statement.
"We hope the breakthroughs will strengthen our energy self-sufficiency, while also impacting the reduction of carbon emissions and diversifying the business portfolio which will open new business opportunities in the future," he said.
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has proposed 17 priority programs, one of which is energy self-sufficiency, meaning that the country has to independently fulfill the needs of domestic energy.
Santoso said Pertamina has successfully developed biofuel energy as a more environmentally friendly fuel with a mixture of plant-based materials, as well as produced and utilized B35 biodiesel. The company is currently developing Pertamax Green and Sustainable Aviation Fuel, an aircraft fuel with a blend of bio-based materials.
"For the development of our businesses, Pertamina is open to establishing partnerships with various institutions from both domestic and international investors," he said. ■
