SINGAPORE, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Singapore has deployed oil absorbent booms to prevent potential spread following an oil spill accident, a statement said on Monday.

Singapore's National Water Agency was closely monitoring the seawater intake at desalination plants and detected no oil leak.

The National Environment Agency warned the public against swimming and other water activities at beaches near the site as precautionary measures.

About 30 to 40 tons of slop, a mixture of oil and water, was leaked from Shell's land-based pipeline on Sunday.

Government agencies were working with Shell to clean up the leaked oil, the statement added.
