KUALA LUMPUR, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's national courier service provider, Pos Malaysia, is eyeing new strategies to tackle a more competitive and challenging environment, a Malaysian official said on Wednesday.

While the country is still adapting to rapid changes in technology and the way courier services are changing, Pos Malaysia continues to be a backbone of Malaysia's trade and economic development, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said in his speech at an event to mark World Post Day.

"Let's be reminded that postal service is more than just a system to deliver mail and parcels. It represents a critical infrastructure that supports economic growth, facilitates trade, and connects the communities. The value of the personal and tangible touch of postal services remains irreplaceable in the fast-paced digital communication era that we all live in today," he said.

Fahmi also assured the courier's 18,000 employees of their job security, saying that the government is fully committed to introducing artificial intelligence (AI) in a way that will minimize disruptions.

"AI should be utilized by Pos Malaysia to resolve issues, not just to manage social media comments but also to address operational matters," he said, adding that AI will optimize the workforce and make tasks more efficient while improving service quality.

Besides diversifying its portfolio and introducing new delivery services, Pos Malaysia has embarked on a drive to adopt electric vehicles (EVs) with more than 1,000 electric bikes and over 300 electric vans scheduled to join the EV fleet in the coming months ahead of achieving its goal of a full EV delivery fleet by 2030.
