India, Maldives ink several MoUs

NEW DELHI, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- India and Maldives on Monday signed various Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) in different fields in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visiting Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu at a ceremony held in New Delhi.

President Muizzu arrived in India on Sunday on a five-day state visit.

The MoUs covered fields including currency swap, policing, preventing corruption, judicial training, and sports and youth affairs.

On the occasion, the two sides also adopted a vision document for "Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership."

Besides, the ceremony witnessed the launch of India's RuPay Card in Maldives, the inauguration of the new runway of the Hanimaadhoo International Airport, and the handing over of 700 social housing units built under EXIM Bank's Buyers' Credit Facilities, said a statement issued by India's External Affairs Ministry.

This is Muizzu's first visit to India in the capacity of president. He held discussions with Modi on bilateral, regional, and international issues of mutual interest, said the statement.
