S. Korea's online shopping rises in June

SEOUL, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's online shopping rose in single digits in June due to solid demand for food, car accessories and e-coupon services, statistical office data showed Thursday.

Shopping in cyberspace stood at 20.07 trillion won (14.7 billion U.S. dollars) in June, up 7.8 percent compared with the same month of last year, according to Statistics Korea.

Transaction of agricultural, livestock and fishery products in cyberspace surged 18.4 percent, while demand for food and beverage expanded 11.9 percent in the cited month.

Online demand for food delivery service grew 12.5 percent, and the online transaction of e-coupon services jumped 27.1 percent amid the spreading trend to provide gifts such as coffee and cake through e-coupons.

Online purchase of car accessories soared 24.9 percent, but those for culture and leisure service, sports and leisure items, baby supplies and footwear fell in single figures.

Mobile shopping through smartphones increased 10.2 percent over the year to 14.96 trillion won (10.9 billion dollars) in June, accounting for 74.5 percent of the combined online shopping.
