MANILA, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Ten people have been injured, two seriously due to possible fractures, after a speeding passenger jeepney plowed through five vehicles, including a vegetable delivery truck and tricycles, in the Philippine capital, a city official said Tuesday.

Rodolfo Tecson of the city disaster risk reduction and management office said the accident happened on Monday in a corner of busy streets in Manila City. The jeepney driver blamed brake failure as the cause of the accident, forcing him to plow through the vehicles and motorcycles in his path.

Tecson told reporters that emergency workers took six of the 10 injured people to a local hospital for treatment. "Two of them might have suffered fractures," he said.

A street surveillance camera showed that a woman was tossed out of a tricycle, and the wayward jeepney dragged a man.

The driver of the jeepney is in police custody.

The elongated, flatbed passenger jeepneys are the most popular mode of public transport in the Philippines.
