HANOI, May 30 (Xinhua) -- A woman was arrested on Thursday in Vietnam's northern province of Thai Binh after a five-year-old boy under her care was forgotten on the school bus and died, VnExpress reported.
A kindergarten employee was reportedly in charge of monitoring students on a 29-seat bus between the school and their homes.
At 6:20 a.m. on Wednesday, she and the bus driver took the five-year-old boy to school by bus. When his uncle arrived at the school at 5:30 p.m. that day to pick him up, the boy was nowhere to be seen.
Only then did people discover that he was still left on the school bus. He was rushed to hospital but declared dead upon arrival, according to Vietnam News Agency.
According to police, the boy spent 11 hours in the sweltering sun on the bus and experienced respiratory failure as a result of hunger and heat.
It was reported that the teacher took a photo of all the students in attendance and sent it to the school's software for monitoring and management. She noticed that the boy was absent but did not notify his family, Vietnam News reported. ■
