DHAKA, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- On the occasion of China's Mid-Autumn Festival, Chinese companies in Bangladesh organized colorful events to celebrate the traditional Chinese festival with Bangladeshi workers to strengthen the people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
South Asia Branch of China Construction Seventh Engineering Division Corp., Ltd. sent Mid-Autumn moon cakes and festival wishes to more than 100 Chinese and Bangladeshi employees.
To let Bangladeshi people know more about traditional Chinese culture and the Mid-Autumn Festival, Chinese staff introduced the origin and meaning of the festival to their counterparts.
"It's very meaningful and interesting. I want and need to know that culture because I work for a Chinese company, so it will help me to get along well with Chinese people and contribute to our teamwork," said Bangladeshi engineer Zaman Khan while holding moon cakes.
"I am very happy and proud to introduce our own traditional festival to Bangladeshi people," Wang Ziheng, a Chinese engineer, said, adding that "although we are not in our homeland, we can feel the same warmth while spending the Mid-Autumn Festival with locals. It's my honor to be a messenger of China-Bangladesh friendship."
Since the Mid-Autumn Festival coincided with the Hangzhou Asian Games, the staff of the Dhaka Bypass Expressway Project, which is under construction by Sichuan Road and Bridge (Group) Co., Ltd., held a lively, fun sports meeting including cricket, football and tug-of-war game.
Bangladeshi engineer Shamim Ahmed Khan, who participated in the tug-of-war, told Xinhua they liked it very much.
Xi Bo, deputy general manager of Dhaka Bypass Expressway Development Company Limited, who played cricket for the first time, said it is very meaningful to try local sport during the Mid-Autumn Festival, effectively relieving work pressure.
"In the future, I will devote myself to my work with a better mental outlook and full work enthusiasm and promote the partial opening target of the expressway within this year."
"We brought the Chinese and Bangladeshi employees together to organize such an activity with the characteristics of both countries amid China's traditional festival. We hope to enhance the cohesion between them," said Xiao Zhiming, director and CEO of the company. ■
