ISLAMABAD, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani sports enthusiasts celebrated on Monday as the nation's premier javelin thrower, Arshad Nadeem, became the first Pakistani to secure a medal at the World Athletics Championships.

Nadeem earned the silver medal with a throw of 87.82 meters in the men's javelin throw final at the global event in Budapest, Hungary on Sunday night.

Despite battling fitness challenges last year, Nadeem delivered an exceptional performance, posing a significant challenge to the gold medalist, Neeraj Chopra of India.

Pakistani caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar exclaimed, "What a day! What a moment of joy for Pakistan. You (Nadeem) have filled the nation with happiness and pride with your outstanding sportsmanship, securing both yourself and the country a silver medal."

Mohammad Akram Sahi, president of the Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP), remarked that Nadeem has made the entire nation proud.

Prominent Pakistani actor Adnan Siddiqui lauded the athlete, stating, "Hats off to Nadeem for his monumental achievement. Despite facing challenges, his exceptional dedication and skill have made history for Pakistan in javelin. He's truly an inspiration."

Various Pakistani business figures and officials, including Sadiq Sanjrani, Chairman of Pakistan's Senate, have announced cash rewards for Nadeem upon his return.
