MANILA, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- An army vehicle slammed into a parked cement mixer truck in central Masbate province of the Philippines Sunday night, killing eight soldiers and injuring six others, the Philippine military said on Monday.
Major General Alex Luna of the army's 9th Infantry Division said the troops were traveling south from Masbate City to their headquarters in Milagros town when it crashed late Sunday night.
He added that among the killed, six died at the scene and two died at a local hospital.
According to Luna, the driver lost control of the vehicle after its break malfunctioned, and later the vehicle hit the concrete mixer truck parked on the roadside. ■
