Pakistan records 4,027 new COVID-19 cases, 1,324,147 in total

ISLAMABAD, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan recorded 4,027 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) said on Sunday.

The total tally of the infected people rose to 1,324,147 across the country, said the NCOC, the department leading Pakistan's campaign against the pandemic.

Pakistan's southern Sindh province has been the worst hit, with a total of 499,830 cases, followed by eastern Punjab province with 452,261 cases.

A total of 29,012 people have died from COVID-19 in Pakistan, including nine patients who lost their lives to the pandemic over the last 24 hours, the NCOC said.

The Asian country currently has 31,551 active cases, and has reported 1,263,584 recoveries from COVID-19.
