Indonesia reports 1,054 new COVID-19 cases, 4 more deaths

JAKARTA, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia on Saturday confirmed 1,054 new COVID-19 cases, the highest single-day rise since Oct. 13, 2021, amid the spread of the Omicron variant in the archipelago.

With the hike, the tally of infections in Indonesia rose to 4,270,794, the country's health ministry said.

The ministry also reported that the death toll from COVID-19 in the country rose by four to 144,167, while 464 more people recovered from the disease during the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 4,118,164.

As the Indonesian government is accelerating its national vaccination programs to curb the spread of the virus, more than 175.64 million people have received their first dose of vaccines, while over 119.42 million have taken the second dose.

Aiming to fully vaccinate 208.2 million people in the country, the Indonesian government has administered over 296.40 million doses, including the third booster jabs.
