JAKARTA, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- A 6.7-magnitude earthquake jolted off the Banten province of Indonesia on Friday with strong tremors felt in the capital Jakarta, the country's meteorology, climatology and geophysics agency said.

However, there has been no tsunami alert issued yet, the agency said.

The quake took place at 16:05 Jakarta time (0905 GMT), with the epicenter at 52 km southwest of Sumur sub-district of Pandeglang district in the Banten province and a depth of 10 km under seabed, the agency said.

The tremors triggered panic among the residents in Jakarta, who rushed to the streets from high buildings and houses, witnesses said.
