HARARE, July 27 (Xinhua) -- Zimbabwe's annual inflation rate in the local Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) currency eased to 3.2 percent in July from 4.7 percent in June, according to data released Monday by the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZIMSTAT).
Month-on-month ZiG inflation dropped to 0.1 percent in July from 0.6 percent in June, ZIMSTAT said.
However, month-on-month U.S. dollar inflation rose to 0.3 percent in July from 0.1 percent in June, while annual U.S. dollar inflation held at 3.1 percent, the agency said, noting that the main drivers of inflation during the month were housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels.
Although Zimbabwe has experienced inflationary pressures over the last few months due to rising fuel and food prices, monetary authorities expect inflation to stay within single digits throughout 2026 owing to a tight monetary and fiscal policy stance.
The country recorded a single-digit annual ZiG inflation rate of 4.1 percent in January for the first time in over three decades, with monetary authorities seeking to keep inflation low and stable to anchor macroeconomic stability. ■
