DAKAR, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko on Monday launched the phase II of a rural potable water supply project in Fass Toure, northern Senegal.

The project, worth 64 billion CFA francs (about 100 million U.S. dollars), is financed by the China Eximbank.

Phase II of the project, to be implemented by the Chinese company CGCOC Group, includes the construction of 85 boreholes, 89 water towers, 1,450 kilometers of pipeline networks, the installation of 300 standpipes, and 18,200 individual connections. These developments will improve access to potable water for more than 2 million people.

At the launch ceremony, Sonko highlighted the "fruitful and exemplary partnership" between Senegal and China.

"The significance of this initiative, which aims to enhance water access for more than two million Senegalese living outside urban areas, aligns with Senegal's social transformation policy," he added.
