CAIRO, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and Austrian interim chancellor Alexander Schallenberg discussed in phone talks on Monday the regional developments, the Egyptian presidency said in a statement.
Sisi highlighted Egypt's endeavors to ensure the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire-for-hostage release deal and adequate delivery of humanitarian aid to the people of the Strip.
He also stressed the indispensability of initiating reconstruction efforts in Gaza to make it habitable.
Schallenberg commended Egypt's efforts over the past months to mediate the conflict and prevent further bloodshed. He affirmed his country's appreciation for Egypt's vital role in securing the ceasefire.
During their talks, Sisi reiterated Egypt's commitment to preserving Syria's unity, territorial integrity, and the security of its people.
The two leaders also emphasized the importance of maintaining the ceasefire and supporting Lebanon's state institutions. ■
