ALGIERS, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- Algeria's state-owned energy company Sonatrach on Sunday launched a 2.33-billion-U.S.-dollar project to boost gas production at the Hassi Rmel field in Laghouat province.
The project, known as Phase III Boosting, Stage 2, aims to offset natural depletion and maintain production levels at 188 million cubic meters per day, Sonatrach said.
The project involves building three compression stations with 20 turbocompressors and upgrading the gas collection network. The central boosting station is expected to start operating in October 2026, followed by the northern and southern stations in January and April 2027, respectively, the company said.
Sonatrach's Regional Director for Hassi Rmel, Youcef Loucif, said the project will help recover additional reserves of 121 billion cubic meters of dry gas, 7 million tons of condensate, and 3 million tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). ■
