ACCRA, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Sudanese Ambassador to Ghana Gariballa Khidir Ali Eldaw on late Monday appealed to the international community to step up humanitarian assistance to those displaced by the more than year-long conflict in Sudan.

Eldaw said at a press conference in the Ghanaian capital of Accra that the humanitarian crisis continues to deepen as the conflict persists.

He noted that with many citizens fleeing the conflict zones, there is an increasing need for humanitarian aid to cushion the displaced people.

"This is a time of war, and Sudan needs food, medicine, and even shelter in some places. We have received a lot of assistance, but because the displaced people keep increasing daily, the need for aid also increases," he said.

Eldaw thanked the international community for its good work in supporting the conflict-stricken country with humanitarian aid.

He lauded the United Nations and its agencies for coordinating humanitarian efforts in Sudan and praised the international non-governmental organizations for assisting the Sudanese people.

Meanwhile, the ambassador urged the international community to increase its support for the displaced people of Sudan.

Sudan has been embroiled in a violent conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces since April 2023.
