NAGOYA, Japan, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- China's men's football team fought like warriors as it came from behind to beat DPR Korea 2-1 in its opening group match at the 2026 Asian Games on Wednesday, head coach Antonio Puche Vicente said.
During a post-match press conference, Vicente expressed satisfaction with how his team had dealt with the game, saying that the players remained well-organized throughout and showed fighting spirit in a difficult match.
"From my experience, the first match in a tournament like this is always very difficult," he said, adding that he had full confidence in his players.
Vicente said his side had anticipated a demanding contest against a strong DPR Korea team known for its aggressive challenges and intense pressing.
Forward Zhang Yuning, who scored once and set up another goal, was a major talking point after the match.
Antonio said he while had already been aware of Zhang's ability, their time together in training and matches had given him a deeper understanding of the forward's game.
"What surprised me was his work rate and professionalism," the coach said.
China will face Iran in its next group match. Antonio said the team would prepare thoroughly and fight for the victory. ■
