TOKYO, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Japan's benchmark Nikkei stock index plunged Tuesday, as stocks related to artificial intelligence and semiconductors came under heavy selling pressure.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended down 2,566.27 points, or 3.95 percent, from Monday at 62,364.92.
The broader Topix index, meanwhile, finished 102.48 points, or 2.52 percent, lower at 3,963.59.
Stocks were pressured by a selloff in semiconductor-related shares tracking losses in their U.S. counterparts. ■
