LA PAZ, July 27 (Xinhua) -- Bolivia's National Unity party said Monday it was leaving President Rodrigo Paz's ruling coalition and would become a "constructive opposition."
Party leader Samuel Doria Medina said on social media that the decision was driven primarily by "ethical" concerns.
While his party continued to support parts of the government's agenda, it disagreed with the way the administration was exercising power and addressing the country's challenges, he said.
Doria Medina cited corruption as the main reason for the split, saying the government had failed to take sufficiently firm action to tackle the issue.
The departure weakens Paz's support in Bolivia's fragmented Legislative Assembly and may force the government to seek new allies to advance its agenda.
Doria Medina also said that any National Unity members who remain in government posts would do so in a personal capacity and would no longer represent the party. ■
